Job Description

A government-facing organization is seeking a Technical Writer II / Legal Editor to support the review, editing, and publication of legal and administrative documents. This position is ideal for an experienced editor with exceptional attention to detail and strong writing skills who enjoys working with complex legal and regulatory content.

 

About the Role

 

The successful candidate will ensure documents meet established editorial standards, legal citation requirements, formatting guidelines, and publication requirements.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Edit legal, technical, and administrative documents for grammar, style, clarity, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Review and validate legal citations and references using established citation standards.
  • Proofread and format decisions, reports, memoranda, and official publications.
  • Conduct legal and factual verification using research databases and supporting materials.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, judges, legal professionals, and administrative staff.
  • Apply organization-specific style standards and formatting requirements.
  • Assist with special editorial and publication projects as assigned.

 

 

Job Requirements

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 3+ years of professional writing, editing, legal editing, technical writing, or publishing experience.
  • Strong command of grammar, syntax, and professional writing standards.
  • Experience working with legal citations and legal research tools preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.

 

Additional Requirements

 

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation.
  • Fully onsite position located in Washington, DC.
  • Six-month contract with strong potential for extension.
