Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Facilities Operations Manager to oversee maintenance operations across multiple government facilities in the DC area. The ideal candidate brings hands-on expertise in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general building systems, coupled with strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. This role involves direct supervision of maintenance teams and coordination with vendors to ensure safe, functional, and compliant facilities operations.

 

Must have Certifications in HVAC (NATE, HVAC Excellence, EPA 608, or HVAC/R), Bilingual Spanish and or Amharic preferred

 

Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day operations of maintenance and janitorial teams across multiple facility types.
  • Delegate and inspect maintenance, cleaning, and repair tasks ensuring quality and code compliance.
  • Conduct regular inspections of buildings, grounds, mechanical systems, and equipment.
  • Perform and coordinate preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Manage service contracts and oversee work performed by external vendors and contractors.
  • Ensure workplace safety and coordinate with security system vendors or staff.
  • Maintain comprehensive maintenance and safety logs, inspection reports, and project documentation.
  • Respond promptly to emergency repairs and troubleshoot system failures.
  • Support capital improvement projects including tenant upfits and space renovations.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate maintenance personnel to ensure best practices are followed.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in facilities maintenance, landscaping, or industrial janitorial services.
  • 1+ year of supervisory or team leadership experience in a facilities or maintenance setting.
  • Must be certified in HVAC (NATE, HVAC Excellence, EPA 608, HVAC/R)
  • Proficiency in general repair, HVAC systems, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of building codes, fire/life safety systems, and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment, stand or walk for extended periods, and respond to on-call emergencies.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Amharic strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in secure or sensitive government facilities.
  • Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, SharePoint, Visio, or Microsoft Project a plus.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills across all levels of an organization.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and make independent decisions.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
