ob and Technical Knowledge – Demonstrates a complete knowledge of ATT policies and

procedures regarding the standards of ethical billing and coding and Maryland Medicaid

protocols, procedures, and billing guidelines. Executes billing responsibilities with confidence, integrity, and honesty and works with minimal supervision.

 

Communication – Writes and speaks effectively in ways that others can clearly understand.

Listens well and provides appropriate feedback, asks questions to ensure complete understanding. Exercises a professional approach with others using outstanding customer

service skills and uses tact when giving feedback and making requests.

Informatics- The ability to use information technology (EMR) to perform essential job duties.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • To ensure the submission of accurate claims to various insurance companies and other

funding sources within established timeframes;

  • Troubleshoot billing discrepancies and non-payment through payment reconciliation;
  • Check and correct all claims daily before submission;
  • Upload and review EOBs, 277s, 835s and 999s weekly;
  • Reconcile batches and make necessary corrections to claims for resubmission, weekly;
  • Contact ASO weekly to correct and dispute claims that cannot be completed online or through the EMR system;
  • Notify providers of insurance lapses and reinstatements, and communicate authorization issues as they arise;
  • Contact consumers with insurance lapses/issues via phone and in writing, and enter appropriate warnings in the EMR system;
  • Collaborate with the psychiatry department regarding RxEM codes, as needed;
  • Maintain and manage consumer data and insurance information, following all protocols

related to consumer privacy;

  • Recognize unethical and fraudulent billing and follow appropriate protocols to report

and resolve these suspicions;

  • Update location of services provided, as needed;
  • Maintain the billing matrix and update, as needed;
  • Conduct billing audits, as required;
  • Process payments from self-pay, as needed;
  • Obtain concurrent OMHC authorizations;
  • To participate in supervision, meetings, and training, as required;
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Minimum of one year working as a medical biller/coder;
  • Familiarity with the DSM and ICD;
  • Comfort using an EMR system and various databases;
