Job Description

We are looking for a Medical Assistant that provides clinical and administrative support in healthcare settings, working alongside physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals. Their responsibilities typically include:

  • Clinical Duties: Assisting with patient examinations, taking vital signs, preparing patients for procedures, administering medications as directed, and performing basic laboratory tests (e.g., blood draws, urine tests).
  • Administrative Duties: Managing patient records, scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, updating patient charts, and handling medical billing and coding.
  • Patient Interaction: Communicating with patients to gather medical histories, explaining procedures, and offering general support throughout their visits.
  • Equipment and Supplies: Maintaining medical equipment and ensuring that the office or clinic is stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Compliance: Ensuring that all tasks comply with health care regulations, safety standards, and HIPAA requirements for patient privacy.

Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills are crucial, as well as the ability to maintain a professional and compassionate demeanor while interacting with patients.

Job Requirements

Requirements for a Medical Assistant:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a medical assistant program from an accredited institution preferred.
  • Certification: Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or CCMA) is highly recommended and may be required by some employers.
  • Clinical Skills: Proficiency in taking vital signs, performing basic lab tests, administering medications, and assisting with medical procedures.
  • Administrative Skills: Experience with patient scheduling, record-keeping, medical billing and coding, and using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology: Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, and basic healthcare procedures.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy, especially when handling patient records, medical equipment, and billing.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and team members, both in person and over the phone.
  • Multitasking: Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Compassion and Empathy: A caring attitude toward patients, with the ability to provide emotional support and demonstrate professionalism.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and assist with physical tasks (such as lifting or positioning patients).
  • Knowledge of HIPAA: Understanding of patient confidentiality and adherence to HIPAA guidelines for protecting patient information.
