Job Description: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Department of Corrections, Washington DC

Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team at the Department of Corrections in Washington DC. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience and a strong commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services within a correctional facility setting. This is a long-term contract position with competitive compensation, sick leave, holiday pay, and opportunities for professional growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct nursing care to inmates within the correctional facility.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers.
  • Monitor and assess the health status of inmates, identifying any changes or concerns.
  • Collaborate with the medical team, including physicians and registered nurses, to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records and documentation.
  • Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Educate inmates about healthcare procedures, medications, and disease prevention.
  • Promote a safe and clean environment for both staff and inmates.
  • Adhere to all established protocols, regulations, and ethical standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality of medical information and inmate records.

Qualifications:

  • Valid LPN license in the state of Washington DC.
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in a correctional or similar healthcare setting.
  • Strong clinical assessment skills and the ability to make quick and accurate decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when working with a diverse inmate population.
  • Proficient in electronic health records (EHR) systems and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to remain composed and professional in high-stress situations.
  • Knowledge of medical and healthcare regulations within correctional facilities is a plus.

Work Schedule and Compensation:

  • Three shifts available: Monday through Friday
    • 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM
    • 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM
    • 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM
  • All nurses are required to be available to work at least one weekend shift per month.
  • Hourly rate: $40.00 per hour.
  • Long-term contract with benefits including sick leave and holiday pay.
