Job Description

The Inventory Management Specialist supports property and inventory operations for a federal law enforcement environment. This role is responsible for acquiring, receiving, tracking, and maintaining accountability of equipment, parts, supplies, and surplus/excess property.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Manage the full lifecycle of property and inventory, ensuring accurate acquisition, receiving, tracking, and disposition of materials.
  • Maintain precise inventory control records within automated systems to support maintenance and operational programs.
  • Monitor usage trends, track reorder timelines, and verify cost changes for parts and subassemblies.
  • Ensure parts, products, and supplies remain available to meet mission and operational requirements.
  • Establish ordering lead times, coordinate material staging, and adjust inventory levels for systems in active use.
  • Participate in process-improvement studies and recommend procedural or operational changes.
  • Identify resource needs and provide budget input for new equipment, parts, and supplies.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, senior officials, and partner organizations to support effective operations and resolve issues.
  • Address technical or operational problems not covered by existing guidelines or precedents.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

 

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a federal background investigation suitable for work in a secure environment.
  • 2–5 years of inventory management, logistics, supply chain, warehouse operations, or property accountability experience.
  • Experience using automated inventory, asset tracking, or property management systems (e.g., ERP, CMMS, logistics or warehouse management software).
  • Proven ability to track, reconcile, and audit inventory with high accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Hands-on experience with receiving, storing, issuing, and documenting equipment, tools, or supplies.
  • Experience working in environments requiring strict chain-of-custody, accountability, and compliance controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret policies, follow established procedures, and recommend process improvements.
  • Background supporting multi-department operations or coordinating inventory efforts across multiple units or teams.
  • Experience analyzing inventory trends, usage patterns, and reorder needs to support operational readiness.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment with changing priorities and time-sensitive demands.
