About the Opportunity

We are seeking two experienced Application Developers to support a major, multi-year modernization initiative for a large public-sector retirement organization.

The organization is replacing aging legacy applications and transitioning to a modern, cloud-native technology environment built on Microsoft Azure. The modernization program will improve application performance, scalability, security, maintainability, and operational efficiency while significantly reducing technical debt and manual processes.

The Application Developer will work closely with developers, business analysts, testers, project managers, and other technical stakeholders to design, develop, enhance, test, and maintain modern applications and integrations.

This is an excellent opportunity for developers interested in working on a large-scale enterprise application modernization and digital transformation initiative.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain application components based on functional and technical requirements.
  • Write clean, secure, maintainable, and production-ready code.
  • Perform unit testing and participate in code reviews.
  • Submit pull requests for technical review and approval.
  • Develop APIs, system interfaces, integrations, and automation workflows.
  • Translate technical specifications and business requirements into effective software solutions.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts, Product Owners, testers, project managers, and technical staff.
  • Troubleshoot application issues and resolve defects.
  • Support application modernization and migration from legacy technologies to modern platforms.
  • Document application functionality, technical solutions, and development activities.
  • Contribute to user story development, acceptance criteria, and backlog refinement.
  • Participate in Agile development practices and SDLC activities.
  • Manage multiple development tasks while meeting established project timelines.
  • Ensure deliverables meet quality standards with minimal defects.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of professional application development experience.
  • Strong knowledge of modern application development frameworks and programming languages.
  • Experience with secure software development and coding practices.
  • Knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies, including Agile.
  • Experience developing and maintaining APIs and system integrations.
  • Experience with unit testing, documentation, code reviews, and pull requests.
  • Ability to develop scalable, maintainable, production-ready applications.
  • Experience translating technical specifications and requirements into working software.
  • Strong understanding of business process analysis and functional design principles.
  • Experience developing or working with user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical teams.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.

Technical Environment

The modernization initiative utilizes a modern Microsoft Azure technology stack, including:

  • Microsoft Azure
  • Angular
  • REST APIs
  • Azure SQL Managed Instances
  • Azure Function Apps
  • Power BI
  • Application integrations and system interfaces
  • Document management and process automation technologies
  • Azure DevOps

Experience with legacy application environments and understanding system dependencies, architecture, and integration points is also valuable.

Legacy Modernization Experience

The successful candidate will help support the transition from legacy applications to modern cloud-based solutions. Experience working with legacy systems, system migrations, application modernization, or complex enterprise integrations is highly desirable.

The project involves maintaining business continuity while modernizing existing applications, making the ability to understand both legacy and modern technology environments particularly important.

Work Environment

  • 100% Remote
  • Occasional in-person attendance may be required for specific project meetings.
  • Contractors should be prepared to cover their own travel expenses if onsite attendance is required.
